If you rely on American media for your news, even your sports news, you probably aren't even aware that this major international sporting competition is taking place in Rio for the next two weeks.

As of this morning, the U.S. led in medals, with 36, followed by Canada with 20, and Cuba and Brazil in third with 16 medals each.
